Reproduction

The species account records egg-laying reproduction. A verified Philippine clutch-size range, incubation interval and breeding calendar are not established here.

Evidence & scope

Literature documented · Reproduction field

Reproductive mode reported for this named species.

Mode alone does not establish litter or clutch size, seasonal timing, or captive husbandry requirements.

Philippine distribution

The atlas records Cyclocorus lineatus from these named Philippine areas: Luzon, Mindoro, Panay, Negros, Cebu, Polillo, Lubang. These are literature areas rather than a continuous range boundary.

The original evidence level is retained.

A country listing cannot establish an island or a precise locality.

Taxonomic context

Cyclocorus lineatus is retained in the atlas’s dated checklist under Cyclocoridae. The authority is (REINHARDT 1843). Earlier names and the original source notes are preserved below for comparison.

Venom classification not yet added · Effects not yet summarised in this atlas

Observe from a distance. Do not handle, corner or capture a snake to identify it. An incomplete venom account is not evidence that a species is safe to handle.

After a suspected snakebite, keep the person still and arrange urgent medical care. Avoid tight tourniquets, cutting, suction and unproven remedies. Do not wait to identify the snake before seeking help.

Taxonomic and source notes

Type species: Lycodon lineatus REINHARDT 1843 is the type species of the genus Cyclocorus DUMÉRIL et al. 1854. Type genus: Cyclocorus DUMÉRIL 1853: 460 is the type genus of the (sub-) family Cyclocorinae (or Cyclocoridae) Weinell & Brown 2017. Phylogenetic definition (Cyclocorinae): Cyclocorinae refers to the clade originating in the last common ancestor of Oxyrhabdium leporinum (Günther, 1858), Cyclocorus lineatus (Reinhardt, 1843), the unnamed lineage represented by KU 337269, and all species that descend from that ancestor. It can also be conceived of as the largest crown-clade containing members of the genera Cyclocorus, Hologerrhum, Myersophis, and Oxyrhabdium (following Weinell et al. 2020), and members of the unnamed lineage represented by KU 337269. Note that Zaher et al. 2019 did not retrieve the Cyclocoridae as separate clade. Distribution: see map in LEVITON 1967.
